How Long You Are Without the Door
We come out of Arlington, and Fort Hunt sits about 10 miles south along that route, so figure that drive time into your afternoon before you call. Once we're there, most single-door jobs - a broken torsion spring, a snapped cable, a bent roller track - run under two hours start to finish. Two-car doors with both springs gone or a bent panel that needs squaring before the opener will work right take longer. We don't carry every part for every door built in this era on the truck, so if your door takes an odd-width torsion spring or a track profile nobody made past the 1980s, we may need to order it, and that's a day or two, not a same-visit fix.
Can You Do This Yourself
A torsion spring under tension on a door this old can put you in the hospital if you don't know the exact wind count and bar size, and on 1960s hardware that's rarely written down anywhere, you're guessing. Cables, same problem - they're storing the same energy the spring is. What you can safely check yourself: whether the tracks are clear of debris, whether the photo-eye sensors are aligned and clean, whether the weatherstripping at the bottom has cracked enough to let cold air and water in, which matters here given how far winter temperatures in this region can drop. If the door won't open or closes crooked, that's a call, not a project.
Booking a Visit
Tell us the age of the house if you know it and whether the door looks original or replaced - that one detail changes what we bring. We travel to Fort Hunt from Arlington for both repair and replacement calls. See our other work near Fort Hunt or check the full range of what we handle on the Arlington garage door service page.
